Baking, cooking and food styling workshop
There’s something special about the feeling of seeing a season slowly coming to an end and leaving place to another.
Summer is all about light meals shared and eaten outside with friends; the essence of food is at its purest state and cooking becomes just a question of assembling the best ingredients together, leaving the good extra virgin olive oil doing all the rest.
September is one of our favourite months here at Mèlisses; it’s the beginning of fall, but it’s also the prosecution of summer for a little while longer…
It’s the time of wild figs growing spontaneously amidst the rocks, warm sunny mornings spent on the beach, Greek hamlets discovery and late evening sunset aperitifs by the pool.
Join us for a full 4 days workshop with Allegra Pomilio and Yossy Arefi.
You will be cooking, baking, food styling, relaxing and exploring while tasting authentic flavours, meeting extraordinary people and discovering the island of Andros, in the tranquility and luxury of Mèlisses.
Each meal will take the form of a “late summer night’s dream” feast, savouring local flavours & atmosphere.
This workshop is open to all levels, from food enthusiasts to professionals, hosting a small group of participants in order to allow everybody to learn and practice as much as possible. Our lovely Chef Yossy Arefi will teach you how to prepare and style homemade seasonal dishes, with local ingredients combining them beautifully.
Our host Allegra will take you visiting local producers, little villages across the island; introducing you to one of the most beautiful and secret beaches of Andros, and spoiling you with freshly cooked delicacies in a picturesque old beach house.

Yossy Arefi is a Brooklyn based photographer and food stylist. She is the author of Sweeter off the Vine: Fruit Desserts for Every Season, Ten Speed Press, Spring 2016. She also writes the award winning blog Apt. 2B Baking Co. which celebrates seasonal baking and preserving.
Her work has been featured in T Magazine, Bon Appetit, Saveur, Modern Farmer and Pure Green Magazine, among others.

Allegra Pomilio our culinary host has been working in the field for many years. Her photography and visual art background studies combined with her passion for food found perfect balance in her blog.
She assisted and spent time in Mimi Thorisson’s kitchen, in the heart of the French countryside. She spent two years honing her skills, studying at the Alain Ducasse Academy, as well as attending many prestigious Italian chef’s classes. Greece is her second home and Mèlisses is her continuous source of inspiration, where she pays particular attention to the presentation of the dishes and to the “art de la table”.
What’s included in our workshop:
5 days & 4 nights accommodation at Mèlisses;
All meals during the workshop (4 dinners, 3 lunches, 4 breakfasts, aperitivos/snacks, drinks & refreshments);
Daily cooking and foodstyling classes, hands on practices;
All activities and excursions, including transfers on the island to and from the house.
- Visits of Andros’ most beautiful villages;
- Getting to know and documenting local producers;
- Allegra’s Italian cooking masterclass;
- Yossy’s cooking and food styling masterclasses;
- Full day excursion and lunch “en plaine aire” in a secluded beach;
- Meal in a local taverna.
What’s not included:
Airfare and/or Transportation to & from the island.
At Mèlisses, everything is aimed to endorse the local flora and fauna; the house is located in the exclusive and majestic bay of Paleopoli. There, underwater, you can still see the old city, once the main harbor of Andros. The bay is opposite the extraordinary scenery of Iaros’ island, which is still today considered legendary and protected for its marine wildlife.
The property is completely isolated with its private access to the sea. All around the house there is quietness and peace. The property has been realised by the best team of landscape designers and architects, completely respecting the surroundings by using local plants and rough stones, creating a continuous harmony with the environment. Mèlisses is surrounded by crystal waters and countryside, where wild figs and grapes grow uninhibited, together with plenty of fruit trees and its own vegetable garden.
Not to mention the elegantly thought interior design, a mixture of Hellenic antique furniture combined with a hint of Italian extravaganza.
The outdoor area is designed to seduce all guests thanks to its breathtaking sea view.
Enjoy a good swim in the crystal waters of the sea or in one of its natural sea water pools while relaxing under the pergola shade, pampered by the Aegean breeze.

How to reach us:
The two nearest Airports are Athens or Mykonos. From Athens airport you can reach Rafina port by Taxi or by Bus (20 minutes approx), then catch the ferry to the island of Andros (about two hours).
Alternatively you can take a ferry from Mykonos to Andros (about two and a half hours).
There are usually 2 different ferry rides per day. We encourage you to confirm your ferry tickets before preceding with your flight bookings.

Unfortunately, due to planning logistics, there will be no refunds for this workshop.
