Food at Mèlisses is a pillar of our philosophy. We believe that good food can heal your spirit, allowing you to have a happier memory of a place. At Mèlisses, we only use the best ingredients and the freshest products. Food on the island of Andros is always of an extraordinary quality and freshness, because fish, meat, fruits and vegetables are locally grown and very little comes from the mainland by boat; something quite unusual for an Island to be so independent. You will enjoy our special breakfasts; local Greek yogurt, selections of typical Greek desserts, small bun brioches, honey, preserved fruits and Pistachios from Aegina, as well as our savoury selections of cheeses, olives and Italian hams. We are always in contact with local farmers and land owners, as well as fishermen and hunters, allowing us to have the most extraordinary and genuine ingredients, straight from their hands.
Allegra, our culinary host has been working in the field for many years. She assisted and worked with the French food blogger Mimi Thorisson and honed her skills studying at the Alain Ducasse Academy, as well as attending many prestigious Italian chef’s classes. At the moment, she lives between Italy and Greece; her passion for food, travelling and lifestyle found perfect balance in her blog: www.allegrapomilio.com.
She’s always looking for the best way to combine simply cooked homemade food served with beautifully displayed ingredients, paying a particular attention to the presentation of the dishes and to the “art de la table” all accompanied by the best wines and refreshments. We also love to invite chefs and bloggers from all over the world and create unique gatherings and cooking workshops; make sure not to miss them ! Each meal will take the form of an outdoor feast, savouring Mediterranean flavours and atmosphere.
